How To Do White Scratchboard With Color

I don't use oil with scratchboard much, but I feel I have a better feel for detail with oil than with any other paint. I wanted to make the chimp as realistic as possible so I opted to use oil.

Scratchboard with Oil Paint

This is basically the same process as with white scratchboard with transparent acrylic. Here I have painted the hairy portions of the chimp with scratchable ink. Then I scratched it. Now is the time to spray it with fixative. Do not spray it after you add the oil paint. It makes the paint curdle.

The background was completely covered with white acrylic paint. This sealed the chalk for the oil paint I used to make the fabric wrinkles. It also makes it easier to keep clean

I painted the face , hand, and foot with white acrylic as well. Then I painted in the details of the face, hand, and foot with oil paint
